Digital E-Learning for Volunteer Agents

GAERS launched its first structured E-Learning Program to upskill volunteer extension agents after observing significant knowledge gaps during farmer interactions — particularly among women volunteers who often lacked confidence in addressing technical questions. The program consisted of seven modules covering soil health, sustainable farming practices, safe post-harvest handling, extension delivery, and farmer engagement. The first final exam was conducted in a hybrid format, with 15 agents (6 women) participating — 11 onsite in Sokoto and 4 using smartphones remotely. To ensure inclusivity, GAERS later conducted a retake exam for those who had missed the opportunity or did not meet the pass mark. Impact: - A total of 16 volunteer agents have now successfully completed the program. - 5 agents achieved perfect scores of 100%, reflecting the effectiveness of the training. - Agents reported greater confidence and clarity in providing advisory services to farmers. - The program has laid the foundation for the upcoming GAERS Certification Program, which will formally recognize volunteer extension agents at our one-year anniversary celebration. By deliberately supporting women volunteers and youth, the program has strengthened inclusivity and built a stronger base of future agricultural leaders.
